SMDA Headquarters

Originally designed as a pumping station and sewage treatment plant in 1926, SEMSD/SMDA Headquarters now serves as an operational base for all facilities. The facility is located near 9 Mile Road and I-94 at 20001 Pleasant Street, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080.

SMDA Site 11 Landfill

The SMDA Site 11 Landfill is located in Washington Township, Macomb County, Michigan.  The site is located south of 31 Mile Road, west of Mound road, and is no longer in operation. The SMDA Site 11 Landfill is accessed via a gravel road located west of Mound road between 30 Mile Road and 31 Mile Road. Site 11 is approximately 100.6 acres and contains six (6) leachate manholes and on (1) leachate storage tank.

 

SMDA Site 9 & 9A Landfills

The SMDA Site 9 & 9A Landfills are located in Macomb Township, Macomb County, Michigan.  The site is located south of 24 Mile Road, west of Card Road, and is no longer in operation.  Site 9 & 9A Landfills are located north of the McBride Drain and are accessed from 24 Mile Road. Site 9 is approximately 63.8 acres and contains two (2) active sumps and six (6) active groundwater recovery wells. Site 9A is approximately 82.2 acres and contains nine (9) active sumps, two (2) active extraction wells, two (2) leachate tranches, five (5) active groundwater recovery wells, and six (6) active tree sumps that are part of a pilot study.

 
 

SMDA Freedom Hill & Fostoria Landfills

The SMDA Freedom Hill and Fostoria Landfills are located in Sterling Heights, Macomb County, Michigan. The Site is located south of 16 Mile Road, east of Schoenherr Road and west of Utica Road and is no longer in operation. The Red Run Drain traverses the site southwest to northeast between the two landfills. The Freedom Hill Landfill is located north and west of the Red Run Drain and is accessed from 16 Mile Road. The Fostoria Landfill is located south and east of the Red Run Drain and is accessed from Huron Academy’s access drive off of Utica Road. Access to the Fostoria landfill must be coordinated in advance with Huron Academy.

The Freedom Hill Landfill operated between 1966 and 1969 and is approximately 40 acres with approximately 25.7 acres of general waste. The Fostoria Landfill operated between 1961 and 1965, is approximately 40 acres with a series of 62 trenches with 16 foot estimated trench widths for a total area of 4.3 acres of buried waste.

SMDA Transfer Station

The SMDA Transfer Station is located in Roseville, Macomb County, Michigan. The facility receives solid waste and compost from various cities and companies throughout the Metro Detroit area.
